Job Objective:
We are looking for a passionate Secondary Music Teacher who can cultivate creative expression in students and inspire a love for music. This role involves providing instrumental support to Secondary students while fostering an environment that encourages innovation and adherence to the IB Learner Profile.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Teaching Certification or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred
- Preferred international teaching experience with a minimum of three years, ideally in an IB setting
- IB Diploma or experience in external selection boards is highly desirable
- Demonstrates an innovative mindset, collaboration, flexibility, and exhibits the characteristics of the IB Learner Profile
Responsibilities:
- Deliver a comprehensive Criteria-Based Music curriculum to Secondary students
- Employ a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methodologies to enable students to reach their musical potential
- Encourage creative and critical thinking, fostering the expression of ideas
- Evaluate and record student progress
- Utilize music technology, demonstrating a willingness to use tools such as Garageband and Sibelius
- Maintain an inventory of musical equipment and facilities for Secondary use
- Inspire student participation in co-curricular performing ensembles with enthusiasm
- Direct both choral and instrumental ensembles, preparing them for Winter and Spring Concerts
- Model good performance practice through conducting, singing, and instrumental playing
- Attend and assist with all Music Department concerts throughout the academic year
- Exhibit compassion and encouragement toward young musicians
- Collaborate with Music Department colleagues across the whole school
- Liaise with teachers, parents, and the Parent Teacher Association to organize logistics for concerts and other events
- Prepare students for AMIS SAISA festivals, attending as a director/chaperone
- Consistently show willingness to go above and beyond, taking initiative, and offering assistance where appropriate
- Work with colleagues in a cooperative spirit
- Give and accept constructive suggestions for improvements
- Refrain from public criticism of the school or colleagues and communicate any concerns through appropriate channels
- Show tact and discretion in dealing with school matters, remaining calm and objective if difficult situations arise
- Respect confidentiality
- Be punctual in meeting all time obligations and deadlines, including the production of reports, arrival at school and lessons, classroom supervision, duties, and meetings, etc.
