About Rocket Lab:

Rocket Lab is a global leader in space systems and launch technology. The rockets and satellites we build enable some of the most vital space missions worldwide, supporting scientific exploration, Earth observation, national security, and efforts to combat climate change. Our Electron rocket has been one of the most frequently launched rockets since 2018, and our new Neutron rocket is set to support future mega constellations in space.

We have been a part of groundbreaking missions, including the James Webb Space Telescope and NASA’s Psyche Mission. Our team works on everything from small satellites to large constellations, and we’re uniquely positioned to offer vertical integration with in-house satellite components, meaning we can quickly adapt and innovate.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will support our global Spacecraft Operations team, which ensures the health and safety of Rocket Lab’s growing fleet of spacecraft. You’ll be involved in diverse missions, working on everything from LEO (Low Earth Orbit) constellations to deep space missions, satellite command and control, re-entry operations, and more.

The Spacecraft Operations Engineer will collaborate with other teams, including spacecraft design, software development, and propulsion, to continually improve both ground and satellite-based systems. This is a hands-on role, and you’ll be expected to take on multiple responsibilities due to Rocket Lab’s in-house vertical integration.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support the spacecraft operations team in maintaining spacecraft health and mission success.
  • Work on a wide variety of missions, including on-orbit manufacturing, interplanetary missions, and satellite constellations.
  • Engage in spacecraft operations for commissioning, orbit raising, and re-entry missions.
  • Collaborate with spacecraft design, flight software, and propulsion teams to improve spacecraft and ground operations.
  • Help solve complex problems and improve spacecraft systems.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, with 3+ years of aerospace/satellite development experience.
  • OR a Master’s degree (or higher) with 1+ year of applied space operations work experience, or 2+ years of applied space operations.
  • Experience in space mission design, satellite subsystems, spacecraft operations, or ground systems.
  • A good understanding of orbital mechanics, rigid body dynamics, and the space environment.
  • Experience with software development (Python, Ruby, C++, or other high-level programming languages).
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems like attitude control, power systems, thermal control, and space-ground communications.

Nice to Have:

  • A graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • Exposure to modern development practices (GIT, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure).
  • Prior experience in satellite system design and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Experience with satellite ground systems.

Rocket Lab Employee Benefits:

  • Opportunity to work on innovative technology.
  • Relocation support and visa sponsorship.
  • Employee stock purchase program.
  • Access to world-leading experts to develop your career.
  • Unlimited barista coffee, fruit, and snacks.
  • Rocket Lab merchandise (T-shirts, mission patches, etc.).
  • Discounted health insurance with Southern Cross.
  • Additional parental leave entitlements.
  • A vibrant team culture with social activities throughout the year.

What to Expect:

At Rocket Lab, we’re on a mission to unlock the potential of space to improve life on Earth. Our work requires hard work, dedication, and innovation. We thrive under pressure and focus on delivering results. Our team is committed to working together, overcoming challenges, and achieving the impossible.
