About the Role:
Starship Children’s Health in Auckland is looking for a Senior Paediatric Anaesthesia Fellow to join their team for a full-time, 12-month position starting in January 2026. There is flexibility to split this into two separate six-month positions, depending on the applicants’ needs.

Starship is the main children’s hospital in New Zealand and the South Pacific, offering excellent care for children. As a fellow in the anaesthesia department, you will get experience in many areas of paediatric anaesthesia, including surgeries on children with airway problems, heart conditions, brain conditions, bone and joint issues, and general surgeries. You will also be involved in audits and other activities within the department, and may be required to take part in on-call duties.

About Starship Children’s Health:
The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine at Starship Children’s Health handles about 11,000 anaesthetics each year, performing procedures in 7 operating rooms at the hospital. There are also additional sessions at the Greenlane Surgical Unit (GSU). About 1,500 patients are anaesthetised for other procedures like MRI, CT scans, cardiac tests, and radiotherapy at Starship Children’s Hospital and Auckland City Hospital.

The Team:
The team in the Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine department works closely together to provide the best care for children undergoing surgery and other procedures. As part of the team, you will be exposed to a wide variety of paediatric cases and will be encouraged to contribute to the department’s activities.

Who We’re Looking For:
To apply for this role, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • You must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and eligible for general registration.
  • You should be eligible to work in New Zealand. New Zealand citizens and residents are preferred, but overseas applicants can still apply.
  • If you are from overseas, you will need to verify your medical qualifications through the EPIC source verification process.
  • You should have completed an anaesthetic training program that is equivalent to the Australasian FANZCA or hold an equivalent anaesthesia fellowship.
  • You will also need to meet other immigration requirements, including eligibility for a work visa if needed. Support with visa applications will be provided.
