Job Description
Position: Full Time
Number of Workers Needed: 5
Job Duties:
- Sugarcane Cultivation and Harvesting:
- Hand or machine harvest sugarcane
- Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, grain augers, and self-propelled machinery
- Follow the harvester on foot to pick up dropped cane
- Unload pre-cut sugarcane stalks (6-10 feet long) from supply wagons
- Plant sugarcane in groups by walking behind a moving wagon
- Place and straighten stalk segments into open furrow rows
- Use machetes to chop stalks into 24-36 inch lengths
- Perform repetitive tasks such as riding, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and kneeling while planting sugarcane
- Use hand tools like shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, and knives
- Dig and clear ditches for drainage
- Till soil, transplant, weed, thin crops, clean, pack, and load harvested products
- Ensure hopper is filled and emptied properly
- Other Duties:
- Plant and harvest soybeans
- Construct trellises and repair fences and farm buildings
- Maintain adequate water supply to crops
- Clean, repair, and maintain farm vehicles and machinery, including grain augers
- Perform general farm maintenance and sanitation duties
- Additional Information:
- Workers with a valid driver’s license and doctor’s certificate may transport other workers and may be offered additional hours
- Follow Good Agricultural Practices policies
- Report crop progress to farmers or farm managers
- Be available for the entire contract period
- Work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, and other conditions
- Unpaid lunch break
- Workers must report to work at the designated time and place each day
Termination:
- Workers will be evaluated on performance and compliance with work rules
- Termination may occur for failing to meet expectations or engaging in serious misconduct
Job Classification:
Agricultural Equipment Operators (45-2091.00)
Requirements:
- 3 months of experience with agricultural equipment for planting, cultivating, or harvesting sugarcane
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Capable of working outside in hot, cold, or wet conditions
- Requires physical stamina
- Drug testing is conducted post-hire at the employer’s expense
Work Details:
- Hours per Week: 40
- Schedule: 7:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.
