Job Purpose:
The School of Infection and Immunity at the University of Glasgow is seeking a Research Assistant/Associate to join a Bacteriology research project. You will be working under the guidance of Professor Andrew Roe to investigate the mechanism of action of a novel anti-virulence therapy, aurodox, as part of a BBSRC funded project.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct independent research and experiments aligned with project goals.
Document and analyze research data, preparing progress reports and papers.
Contribute to publications in high-impact scientific journals.
Present research findings at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Help identify funding opportunities and assist in securing future research grants.
Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Take part in teaching activities, such as demonstrations and related administrative tasks.
Stay updated on recent developments in gut biology, immunology, and microbiology.
Key Responsibilities for Grade 7:
Lead independent research projects, secure funding, and publish research.
Mentor and lead other researchers in your team.
Develop and implement research strategies.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
Grade 6: A degree in Microbiology or a related field (Honours level or equivalent). Knowledge in gut biology and immunology is essential.
Grade 7: A PhD in Microbiology or a related field, with at least 2 years of post-doctoral experience. Expertise in molecular microbiology and research leadership is required.
Required Skills:
Expertise in Streptomyces genetics and gene regulation.
Strong skills in bioinformatics.
Experience with molecular techniques such as RNA/DNA sequencing, protein purification, and gene cloning.
Proven ability to write scientific papers and publications.
Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Experience:
Grade 6: Experience with molecular microbiology and research publications.
Grade 7: A proven track record of independent research, including publications in international journals.
Additional Information:
This position is full-time with funding until 31 December 2027.
