Job Overview:
Starship Children’s Health is looking for four full-time fellows to work in Paediatric Anaesthesia and Paediatric Intensive Care. These positions will be for 12 months (6 months in each area), starting in January 2026.

You will gain experience in a variety of areas, including:

Anaesthesia for surgery involving children with different needs, such as airway surgery, cardiac anaesthesia, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and general paediatric surgery.
Providing care in paediatric intensive care for critically ill children.
The role also includes some on-call duties and participation in audit activities (reviewing and improving processes in the department).

About Starship Children’s Health:
Starship is New Zealand’s top children’s hospital, serving children across the country and the South Pacific. It provides a wide range of medical services, including surgeries, intensive care, and other treatments for children.

The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine manages about 11,000 cases each year. The department works in 7 operating rooms at Starship Children’s Hospital, plus additional operating room sessions at a nearby facility (Greenlane Surgical Unit). They also provide anaesthesia for non-surgical procedures, such as MRIs, CT scans, and radiotherapy.

About the Role:
This fellowship will give you the chance to:

Gain experience in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care.
Work with a team of experts in a hospital that handles complex cases.
Participate in departmental activities, including quality audits to improve the care provided.
Take part in on-call duties as required.
Who Can Apply:
Medical Registration: You must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for registration (General Registration).
Visa Requirements: Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand. Preference will be given to New Zealand Citizens and Residents, but overseas applicants are welcome to apply.
If you’re an overseas applicant, you will need to provide EPIC source verification of your medical qualifications for registration.
Qualifications: You must be completing or have completed an accredited anaesthetic training program equivalent to the Australasian FANZCA (Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists).
About You:
Experience: You should be nearing the end of your anaesthesia training or already have completed a formal anaesthesia training program. You are seeking additional training in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care.
Skills: You should have strong skills in anaesthesia and intensive care for children, as well as the ability to work in a team and take on leadership tasks as needed.
