Mechanical Technician (Workshop Engineer/Vehicle Technician)

Location: Newton Aycliffe Depot

Salary: £31,000 – £33,000 per annum + Pension (6% employer, 4% employee) + Overtime (1.5x and 2x) + 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays + Life Assurance + Discount Benefits Scheme + Uniform

Hours: 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (39 hours per week)

The Mechanical Technician position is suitable for candidates with experience in plant machinery, forklifts, HGVs, agricultural equipment, or similar. Automotive technicians and motor trade professionals are also encouraged to apply. Key requirements include demonstrated mechanical service and repair skills, ideally with experience in engine diagnostics and basic electrical work.

You will join a highly skilled team within a reputable organization, responsible for planned maintenance and repairs of a range of forklifts. Duties include ordering necessary spare parts and communicating progress effectively. Overtime is paid at time and a half for hours worked beyond 39 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Technician:

• Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), service, and repair work on workshop and service-based forklift trucks.
• Work in a busy workshop environment on a Monday to Friday schedule.
• Order spare parts as required.
• Overtime opportunities available.

Key Requirements:

• Experience with plant machinery, forklifts, HGVs, agricultural equipment, cars, or similar.
• Excellent communication skills.
• IT literacy.
• Ideally hold a Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
