The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Maine is looking for a Lecturer to start in September 2024. This is a non-tenure track position for the academic year.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teaching: You will teach a mix of introductory and advanced undergraduate physics courses each year, including running upper-level lab sessions.
- Collaboration: Work with colleagues to deliver multi-section introductory courses and help with curriculum development and assessment.
- Mentoring: Guide teaching assistants and undergraduate Learning Assistants as needed.
- Service: Contribute to the department, college, and university.
Qualifications:
- Required: A master’s degree in physics or a related field, plus additional graduate study. You should have experience teaching college-level physics, strong communication skills, and familiarity with active teaching methods.
- Preferred: A Ph.D. in physics or a related field, experience with active teaching strategies, success in collaborative settings, and research on teaching physics. We are especially interested in candidates who support the University’s commitment to diversity, including first-generation and low-income students and under-represented groups in physics.

- Department: The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers various degrees including BA, BS, MS, and PhD in physics, ABET-accredited degrees in engineering physics, and minors in physics and astronomy. Students engage in lab work every semester and complete a senior capstone project.
