About the Role:
Starship Children’s Health in Auckland is offering an exciting opportunity for a 12-month full-time Pain Medicine Fellowship starting in January 2026. This position is unaccredited but provides valuable training in managing pain for children and teenagers, including those with acute pain, chronic pain, procedural pain, and cancer-related pain.
The successful applicant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, advocating for and managing pain in children. They will also contribute to audits and other departmental activities. There are flexible working options available, including job-sharing opportunities. Applicants should provide details about their base specialty and on-call requirements when applying.
About Starship Children’s Health:
Starship Children’s Health is the leading provider of healthcare for children in New Zealand and the South Pacific. The department of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine manages around 11,000 cases annually in the hospital’s operating rooms, along with additional sessions at the Greenlane Surgical Unit (GSU). Starship’s specialists provide care not only for surgeries but also for various procedures, including MRI, CT scans, cardiac investigations, radiotherapy, and other radiology-related treatments at both Starship and Auckland City Hospitals.
As part of the team, you will be joining 25 Consultants, 4 Fellows, and 7 Registrars in a multidisciplinary setting, working alongside experts in acute and chronic pain management, and subspecialties such as Cardiac and Transplantation Anaesthesia.
What We Are Looking For:
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for such registration (General Registration).
- You must be eligible to work in New Zealand. Preference will be given to New Zealand Citizens and residents, though overseas applicants are welcome to apply.
- If you are an overseas applicant with international medical qualifications, you will need to provide EPIC source verification for your registration application.
- You should be nearing the end of your training in a relevant specialty (like paediatrics, anaesthesia, or psychiatry), or have recently completed your formal training and are seeking further structured training in Paediatric Pain Medicine.
- You must have completed or be close to completing a fellowship program equivalent to the FPM-ANZCA (Fellowship in Pain Medicine with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists) or an equivalent qualification.
